Linda, Val, and Rocky have finished their 8 month coast-to-coast ride, on Thursday November 3, 2005. Closing festivities were held at Days End Farm Horse Rescue (www.defhr.org).

A soul-healing journey from the saddle

On March 29, Linda Losey will be the first lone woman to attempt the 5,000 mile-long, coast-to-coast American Discovery Trail on horseback. The expedition is a memorial ride for her youngest son, 10 year old Sam, who died on June 22, 2004, in a tragic family accident. It is in Sam's memory that Linda sets out on the trail to raise money for the Sam Losey Memorial Scholarship Fund, Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc. (ERRI—a local horse rescue), and to find healing along the way.

For nine months, beginning in San Diego, Linda will ride through cities, small towns, national parks, deserts, and wilderness to complete the journey in her hometown of Baltimore, ending at the Chesapeake Bay. Accompanied by her companions Val, a rescue-horse from ERRI that Linda adopted, and Rocky, a Tennessee Walking Horse, the team will face many challenges, but the ride promises to be a life-changing journey. Linda will journal the cross-country horseback ride, the people and places along the way, as well as the personal triumphs and haunting memories of a 42 year old mother, artist, and writer, discovering strength and serenity in the saddle.
